In line with the observance of International Human Rights Week, solidarity group for Burma Free Burma Coalition-Philippines held what they called “Haranang Bayan”, a Night of Filipino Solidarity for the Peoples of Burma last December 7.
Teatro Pabrika, played popular progressive songs that express extreme love for country, justice and democracy. Some friends from Burma also joined the event.
Haranang Bayan is also an advanced Christmas gathering of FBC-Phils and its partner organizations. Haranang Bayan started with video showing of the bloody September attack in Burma and activities of the coalition for the year 2007.
The coalition’s secretariat, the Initiatives for International Dialogue (IID) also prepared some games including a quiz show that ask about facts and figures on Burma.
Egoy Bans, spokesperson of the FBC-Phils said, “Haranang Bayan aims to send solidarity to the peoples of Burma and reaffirm our commitment to support their struggles. Using the powers of songs, poems and solidarity messages, we serenade our brothers and sisters in Burma as we are one with them in their quest for justice and democracy.”
The event ended with the signing of the 8-8-88 faces petition, a campaign calling for the release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and All Political Prisoners in Burma.
