The Initiatives for International Dialogue (IID) has been invited to join the 5th Asia-Europe Roundtable (AER) on “Sustaining the peace through post-conflict reconstruction” to be held in Singapore on May 23-25.

IID Executive Director Augusto Miclat Jr, has been invited to be one of the participants of the activity, his organization being involved in conflict prevention and peace-building initiatives in Southeast Asia and the world.

Miclat hopes that his participation in the forum could contribute to the “consolidation of knowledge and expertise that may be useful in the whole gamut of peace-building activities because, somehow, this has what IID been doing.”

IID is the regional initiator of the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) in Southeast Asia.

The AER has been engaged in conflict management between Asia and Europe since its launching in 2000. Since 2003, the Forum has focused on the theme peace and security in Asia and Europe.

The Asia-Europe Foundation and Friedrich-Ebert Stiftung Office for Regional Cooperation in Southeast Asia are organizers for this year’s gathering, which Miclat relayed is aimed at “understanding post-conflict reconstruction and finding solutions to problems encountered in the process.”

The IID director specified that the fora would also “examine the nature of Asia and Europe and its experiences and cooperation in tackling common or contrasting challenges.”

Among those Miclat enumerated are region building, conflict prevention, and conflict resolution.
