Stop the War in Gaza! Start the Process Towards Resolution.

The Initiatives for International Dialogue (IID) lends it voice to the growing international call for an immediate stop to the carnage of in Gaza, and for the parties in conflict to always respect the rights of the civilians they’ve placed at risk. Aligned with the calls of the United Nations Security Council, the Quartet on the Middle East, the Arab League as well as numerous national leaders and ordinary citizens appalled by the war, IID calls on both the Israeli government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Hamas leadership and other anti-Israeli forces, to immediately stop their attacks and seek other measures for redress of grievances and differences.

In Modest Gains We Remain Hopeful: Moving Forward with the Bangsamoro Basic Law

Despite the seemingly uphill challenge to submit a mutually acceptable BBL to the President and then Congress still before us, we at IID express our continued hope and support for the successful conclusion to this peace process begun 17 years ago. We realize that as the details become more explicit, the terms more binding, the mechanisms more complex and the pressure to deliver ever building, we all still find value in the incremental gains that continue to be tallied, and in the persistence of both panels to persevere with the task at hand. To this we can only express our admiration and say “padayon” and persevere!

A Call to Preserve Japan’s Peace Constitution: Support the Global Article 9 Campaign

A Call to Preserve Japan’s Peace Constitution: Support the Global Article 9 Campaign

We, the members and conveners of the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict in South-East Asia (GPPAC-SEA), support the global, regional and local calls for Japan’s current government to halt its efforts at amending and reinterpreting its 1947 Peace Constitution, particularly Article 9, which deals with Japan’s security and defense. In attempting to expand Japan’s peacekeeping and mutual defense role in the region by reinterpreting Article 9, the Japanese government now hews dangerously close to discarding the peace-compass Japan has steered by over the last six decades.

THE BANGSAMORO PEACE AGREEMENT IS OURS TOO!

The success of peace in the Bangsamoro is not just for the peoples of the Bangsamoro and the Philippines, but ours as well in region.

We are meanwhile mindful of the concerns raised by stakeholders whom we met in Cotabato and Manila during our visit with regards to inclusivity of the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) and the delay in its submission to the Congress of the Philippines. We hope that these concerns are listened to and addressed.

Statement of APSOC on the State Visit of US President Barack Obama

The expansion of military troops in the region will not help realize lasting peace for our people. If the US is truly an ally of peace, it should learn from its experiences on conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq and the rest of the Middle East: that military interference of external powers has never facilitated and, in fact, most of the time, if not always, exacerbated regional or domestic peace-building processes.
