Forty-five years ago on December 1, 1961 the Papuan Morning Star Flag was raised in this land. On this occasion, as APSOC sends its delegation to West Papua, it extends its profound solidarity with the Papuan people to once again express its aspiration.
The Papuan people for more than four decades have been longing to live as free people and that one day sooner than later, the Morning Star as West Papuan people’s symbol of nationalism will be raised and flown throughout the Papua land. A land that will be a peaceful place for its people to freely develop its fullest potentials. A land where freedom of expression
and assembly are enjoyed by the people. A land where respect for human dignity and human rights are both a norm and practice. A land where the people live in harmony with nature and fully enjoy the benefits of its natural resources.
The Asia Pacific Solidarity Coalition (APSOC) is one with the Papuan people in this aspiration. As a solidairty movement in the region, APSOC supports the people of West Papua as they pursue and assert their right to self-determination.
APSOC will endeavor to promote West Papua’s cause in whatever and wherever venues and opportunities available. It will endeavor to strengthen linkages with the various organizations and sectors of West Papuan society and will continue to link up with the entire international solidarity movement for West Papua around the world.
This message is delivered this first day of December 2006 in Jayapura, West Papua.
